How do I use the Designation Finder?
Answer:
The Designation Finder is one of Research Explorer's tools that help users choose their designation at UT Dallas by browsing through a list of official Rank and Department names at UTD. It can be found at any form that requires users to enter rank information and generally looks like this:

   Find Clear

To use the Designation Finder:
  1. Click the Find link. A dialog box will popup (as shown in the slides) that displays pages of Department and Rank names and has search boxes.
  2. This portal is split into 2 main sections:
    • The top half is a browse and search departments section.
    • The bottom half is a browse and search ranks section.
  3. In each half, you can:
    • Navigate through the pages (by clicking on the page numbers or the [Next] and [Prev] links ) till you find your rank/department in the list below. OR
    • Type in keywords in the textbox at the top of each half to filter through the list.
    • When you have found the rank/department that you wish to put on your profile, click on that entry in the list. That name will populate the "Selected Department" or "Selected Rank" box at the bottom of the appropriate section.
    • If you had entered a designation earlier, when you open the Designation Finder the "Selected Department" and "Selected Rank" boxes will be auto-populated.
  4. If you are satisfied with your choices, click the button. An alert will popup asking the user to confirm the choice of rank-department. Click on OK to confirm or Cancel to continue browsing for your designation.
  5. If you click OK, the dialog box will close and populate the appropriate textbox with your chosen designation
  6. At any time you can close the Designation Finder by clicking on the 'X' button at the top right corner of the box.
  7. The designation box can be cleared by clicking the Clear link. If you clear the box and save the form, the designation will be deleted.
